Solutions to enable Industrial Ethernet
Industrial
Industry 4.0, Industrial Internet of Things –IIoT, Smart Factory, Digital Factory and Smart Manufacturing. All of these buzz words represent the trend of production and factory operations benefiting from real time data communications, machine learning and Artificial Intelligence.
Industrial Ethernet
Industrial Ethernet use cases can be found in the IEC/IEEE 60802 profile. The Operational Network (OT) is separated from the Information Network (IT) by a firewall. The OT network consists of routers, bridges, and End Stations. The latter can include controllers, I/O devices (sensors and actuators), drives, and Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI). Bridged End Stations enable devices to be daisy-chained together. Some devices, such as safety buttons, require deterministic, low-latency connectivity, while others like cameras and monitors might require best effort only. Devices without Ethernet connectivity are connected through Gateways.
Industrial Ethernet
The most common Ethernet speeds used in industrial environments range from 10/100 Mbps (Fast Ethernet) to 1 Gbps (Gigabit Ethernet). These speeds are sufficient for most industrial automation applications, providing adequate bandwidth for real-time control, data exchange, and monitoring tasks.
